Habitat for Humanity
Global Village Build in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

In November 2013, Kimberly participated in a Habitat for Humanity Global Village Build in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

This particular build was a "big build" where 150 people from around the world worked on the Smile Village, a distance of about 11k from the capital city of Phnom Penh. The Village will house families now living in the Mekong, Stung Meanchey trash dump. The dump was officially closed in 2009, but families still make their home and get their "income" from scavenging through the trash. During the week long build, Kimberly constructed concrete block walls, mixed mortar, tied rebar, relocated building materials, and established building foundations. The family partners are on site working with the volunteers which creates a special, personal bond. When the Smile Village is complete, it will provide secure, adequate housing for 330 families. Kimberly was extremely honored to participate in this build and thanks all her friends and colleagues who donated to this Global Village Build.
